Design and Analysis of Serial Manipulator for Carrying Unfurlable Antenna Reflector

Patel Devyanshi N

Abstract

Deployable structures are foldable structures in defined manner, either for conveyance or for storage. The primary usage of deployable structures is for use in space because of restricted size of launch vehicle. The main purpose of this study is to design & outline deployable Serial Manipulator which carries unfurlable antenna reflector. Serial arm having three degree of freedom is taken into consideration for lab demonstration model. The primary objective of this serial arm is to place antenna reflector in such configuration that it’s feed or focus well-adjusted in respected frequency band according to requirement. Design of manipulator is done taking space constraints into consideration at every stage which may differ from lab demonstration model. 3-D model of serial arm built with the help of Autodesk Inventor and its static analysis done using Ansys. At each joint position in the arm, motor serves as an actuator, which is controlled using Arduino UNO microcontroller board.
