Ontology Languages and Tools for Semantic Web: A Survey
Abstract
World Wide Web (WWW) is a huge source of information, where finding required meaningful information is a challenging task. The information retrieval (IR) system intents to discover a collection of related documents which are specific to the information need of the user. Conventional IR systems retrieve information without the knowledge of semantics and user domain of interest. With the intention to overcome the drawbacks of current IR systems the notion of ontology and Semantic Web (SW) was developed. Ontology provides a conceptualization layer whereas SW extends WWW by adding a machine understandable layer. In this paper, Semantic Web with ontologies, ontology languages, and tools required to construct Semantic Web applications are discussed.
