QoS Analysis of the Integrated UMTS and WLAN Network in Different Mobility Models with Prediction Algorithms Assisted Vertical Handoff using Conversational Traffic

S. Tripathi, A. K. Jain

Abstract

The selection of suitable handoff prediction algorithms in next generation heterogeneous networks is based on seamless mobility. The effect of different mobility models on quality of service (QoS) of the integrated universal mobile telecommunications system (UMTS) and wireless local area network (WLAN) can be observed by handoff prediction algorithms. The aim of this work is to analyze QoS of the integrated UMTS and WLAN network in the file-based mobility model and the random waypoint mobility model using various handoff prediction algorithms. This paper compares them on the basis of QoS parameters, e.g. end to end delay, jitter, packet loss and throughput for constant bit rate (CBR) conversational application by simulation.

Keywords: Integrated UMTS and WLAN network, QoS, vertical handoff prediction algorithms, file-based mobility model, random waypoint mobility model
