Use of Online Social Media for Emergency Response and Recovery

Abstract


In this age, the information technology sector has improvised so much that without it; it seems that we are handicapped. Nowadays, there are certain measures, which have been taken for the solution of everyday life emergent situations. The rescue brigade, fire brigade etc., are some of the services provided by a nation. These services are considered as an important factor in the development and progress of a country. Today, in every sector, there are more emergency related problems which are to be tackled then and there. In this regard, information technology plays its vital role. The social networking services, which apparently look like a source of passing leisure time, are not only used for this purpose, rather they can be and are being used to identify and mitigate the emergencies well there at the spot. Services such as FB, Twitter and WhatsApp, etc. are used efficiently to send a small message to inform/convey the emergency message to the required officials.
