Abstract

With the advancement of science and technology, the idea of small-scale industry has changed greatly. More emphasis has been given on agriculture as well as small-scale industry. Handloom is such type of industry, which begins with cultivation of cotton plant and ultimately ends up with spinning and making of cotton cloths. The handloom industry runs throughout the year. It has an additional advantage of providing employment to agriculturists even during the slack season. At present, this sector acts as a supplementary source of income in most of the districts of West Bengal. Due to increase of the cost of production and low market price of the product, they are being bound to leave this profession because of debt trapping.

 

Keywords: Handloom industry as a source of local development, create the job opportunities of the local people, it’s a money funding mechanism specially the marginal clan.
