Haptics – Principles and Applications

Haptics is a recent augmentation to virtual milieu facilitating the end user to “touch” and sense the simulated substances with which they collaborate. The schoolwork of haptics initiated through the progresses in virtual veracity. It is a scheme of human-computer synergy yielding a virtual environment that we can reconnoitre by unswerving interplay with human senses. There should be some sort of feedback if one has to perfectly relate to the environment. Haptic feedback takes into account the tactile as well as the force feedback. Tactile also termed as touch feedback in the nomenclature is embodied to sensations caressed by the skin. It facilitates the person to sense paraphernalia like the texture of surfaces, reverberation and temperature. Force feedback on the other hand replicates manoeuvring forces that can occur from solid precincts, mechanical compliance of an object, inertia and the mass of a seized virtual entity. In this article, the fundamentals of haptics along with its underneath working principles has been outlined. Also some of the applications that have benefitted through the use of haptics have been discussed.
