Abstract

Abstract

Designing of an intricate shaped coupler curve requires assembling of complex synthesis process in relationship with the linkages of a mechanism. This work is an attempt to address curvilinear path synthesis problem on designing and optimizing a four-bar mechanism with ternary linkage whose coupler tip traces an in-demand curve with enhanced fitness level. Coupler-curve equations of the mechanism have been derived in relationship with the linkages; in the follow-up, a method has been pursued that synthesizes the mechanism corresponding to an elliptical curve. Later, genetic algorithm (GA) approach is implemented that handles both, optimization and generation of a coupler curve with added advantage. In-depth analysis on elliptical curve generation applying GA has been fulfilled, subsequently resulting synthesized configurations of the mechanism have been illustrated and the outcomes are discussed.
