Abstract
Velocity Estimation, instead of using complex algorithms, can be easily implemented on MATLAB by some simple calculations. Speed can also be tracked using the threshold values and thus concerned authorities can be notified using the Gmail interfacing. For real time applications, some advanced hardware should be used. Nowadays traffic is a very big problem in the urban areas that has to be addressed. Video monitoring is one of the latest techniques to do traffic surveillance, these systems are quite important for the monitoring and traffic management. Various important advantages of these types of systems are prevention of accident and secure transportation. The main aim of this work is to identify the speed of the vehicle running on the road. As various researchers did a lot of work in this area and found it very complex area. In this paper, a method is proposed which consists of mainly three steps background subtraction, feature extraction and vehicle tracking.
