Modeling Campus VLAN using OPNET Simulation

Virtual LANs have long been used within campus networks to create logical workgroups, independent of physical location or LAN topology. It is important to analyze VLAN capabilities, found in both wired and wireless devices, to tag and compartmentalize Wi-Fi traffic, supporting institution’s security and traffic management policies. A campus VLAN is modeled using OPNET modeler and traffic over VLAN is analyzed. Differences in throughput and network delay are compared over VLAN and without-VLAN environment. The model is designed to create a campus VLAN with fiber backbone with several segments.
