T-Shape Antenna with Defected Ground for 5G Applications

In this paper, for 5G cellular applications, a novel microstrip patch antenna with high gain and wide bandwidth MMW frequencies is presented. The antenna is designed as single T-shaped radiating patch on the top layer of substrate and for improving the bandwidth and return loss characteristics, partial ground is incorporated on the bottom plane. A 50Ω matched lumped port is used for the feeding. In addition, the proposed antenna is planer in geometry and has compact size (12×12 mm). Concept of partial ground is used in the antenna design along with the defected ground structure (DGS) to achieve larger bandwidth, small size and simple structure. The proposed antenna can resonate at single frequency and can be used as a fundamental antenna element in 5G cellular applications. Simulated results show a wide bandwidth of 39–44 GHz with peak gain of 4.1 dB at 42.1 GHz.
