The optimized link state routing protocol (OLSR) is developed for mobile ad hoc networks. It operates as a table driven, proactive protocol, i.e., exchanges topology information with other nodes of the network regularly. Each node selects a set of its neighbor nodes as "multipoint relays" (MPR). In OLSR, only nodes, selected as such MPRs, are responsible for forwarding control traffic, intended for diffusion into the entire network. MPRs provide an efficient mechanism for flooding control traffic by reducing the number of transmissions required. The key idea utilized as a part of the convention is that of multipoint relays (MPRs). This procedure significantly diminishes the message overhead when contrasted with a traditional flooding mechanism, where each node retransmits every message when it gets the first duplicate of the message. In OLSR, link state data is created just by nodes chose as MPRs. In this manner, a second enhancement is accomplished by minimizing the quantity of control messages overflowed in the system. As a third enhancement, a MPR node may decide to report just connections in the middle of itself and its MPR selectors. Consequently, fractional link state data is distributed in the system. This data is then utilized by for route calculation. OLSR provides optimal route. The convention is especially suitable for huge and dense networks.
