Comparative Study of Different Types of Mixer Techniques

Study of different types of mixer techniques will be presented in which Gilbert cell is used as core of the mixer as it provides high conversion gain, low power consumption and port-to-port isolation. Using Multi-Tanh Technique consists of multiple differential transconductance stage, we get a very good linearity but low conversion gain. Using Current bleeding technique, both linearity and conversion gain increase but increase in power consumption. Switch biasing technique provides very low value of noise figure with parallel connection of nMOS transistor which improves the linearity but consumes more power. Folded cascade Technique used to bend the LO switching stage used to reduce DC supply voltage but degrade the noise figure. Bulk driven technique is used to decrease the power consumption, but it lowers down the linearity. By cancelling the third order derivatives we can increase the linearity and for this we use CCPD technique (cross coupled port distortion) but it reduces the conversion gain and annihilates more power due to auxiliary transistor. From above all techniques, we conclude that there is an interrelationship between the parameters such as conversion gain, noise figure, linearity and power depletion of mixer.
