Parallel Computing to Perform Isogeometric Topology Optimisation of Continuum Structures Using Aqua Search Evolutionary Algorithm

Abstract
The efficiency and effectiveness of using the computational power to solve engineering problems is the real challenge. The knowledge of Computer Science and Information Technology should enable us to address these challenges in the field of computational mechanics and solvea few structural engineering problems. The main focus in this paper is to be able to apply parallel computing to perform engineering optimization of NP(non-deterministic polynomial-time hardness)-hard problems using fewer computational resources and locate the optimal point. The geometry of the structure is modelled using NURBS basis functions and the analysis is performed using Bubnov Galerkin Weighted Residual Method. Metaheuristic algorithms namely Aqua search algorithm is used here. The main objective is to perform isogeometric topology optimization of continuum structures using two parallel engines. The principal stresses are calculated at the centroid of each element. A new approach is proposed here to exclude the elements which do not carry any stress. A few problems from the literature are solved and the results are compared. The results obtainedusing isogeometric analysis are in good agreement with the finite element analysis.
