Abstract

This work presents the development of a new programming language, Simple Imperative-Model Programming Language for Education – SIMPLE. The new language is compiled procedural language that aims to simplify programming syntax and relives beginners from advanced programming concepts. SIMPLE was designed and implemented as a significant set of a typical procedural programming language. Although it is not intended for serious industry-level programming but, we claim that it could be an effective education vehicle and demonstrational component in introductory, intermediate and advanced courses. SIMPLE has been extensively tested using50+ different test programs designed carefully to target the language elements and features and our final tests showed that the language is reliable and ready to be adopted in education.

  • Aaron Rasheed Rababaah, American University of Kuwait
    Dr. Aaron Rasheed Rababaah is an Associate Professor of Computer Science at the American University of Kuwait (Jan 2016 – Present). He held three other positions at three universities in USA before joining AUK; He was an Instructor at Indiana University of South Bend, Post-Doc researcher and Instructor at Tennessee State University and Assistant Professor then Associate Professor at University of Maryland Eastern Shore. He finished his B.Sc. in Industrial Engineering from University of Jordan, Jordan, his M.Sc. in Applied Computer Science from University of Indiana, USA and his Ph.D. from Tennessee State University, USA. He has five years of experience in IE and eight years in teaching at the college level. He has research interest in Machine Learning, Machine Vision, Software Engineering and Computing Education. He has 67 publications: 21 refereed journal papers and 46 conference papers and 50 professional presentations in several international journals and conferences. He was awarded several awards including two Distinguished Research Awards from a USA journal and a USA conference, Exceptional Leadership for ISO9000 accreditation, M.Sc. Scholarship/Academic Excellence Award, Ph.D. Scholarship, Thesis Showcase Award and Who’s-Who recognition for number of times. He has supervised, advised and referred senior projects, master theses, doctoral dissertations and number of journals. He has been funded several times to conduct research in his areas of expertise including, USA Department of Defense, US Army, NASA, USA Science foundation and Maryland Department of Education.
