Traffic Pattern-Based Performance Comparison of OLSR, DSR and ZRP Routing Protocol in VANET using NS2

Abstract


Vehicular ad-hoc network (VANET) is a special class of MANET that provides the communication in vehicles that are moving on road. There are large numbers of accident are increasing on the road so that VANET play a vital role to prevent the accident by sharing the information among vehicles. VANET is the major component of the ITS (Intelligent Transportation System) that provide the application to improve the road safety and travel comfort. Routing protocol is backbone of the VANET because all the information exchanging process is done by the Routing protocol. In this paper, we have thought about the execution of three VANET routing protocols DSR as receptive, OLSR as proactive and ZRP as mixture by utilizing Manhattan (MH) Mobility Model. The performances of protocols are investigated by varying type of traffic (CBR and TCP), network load and mobility. Manhattan Grid Mobility model has been produced by IMPORTANT tool is used to generate the Manhattan (MH) Mobility model. This experiment has been carried out with the help of NS2 simulator. The comparisons are shown with the help of packet Delivery Fraction, End-to-End Delay, Routing Overhead, Throughput and packet loss performance metrics. It has been observed that DSR performs better in TCP as well as CBR traffic but at the cost of higher delay and packet loss. It has been concluded that for real time delivery ZRP is better choice. Overall, the performance of protocols in TCP traffic is far better than CBR traffic.
