A Survey of Various Route Selection Strategies for Mobile Ad-Hoc Networks
Mobile Ad-hoc Networks (MANETs) have a dynamic topology due to the mobile nature of portable devices. Because of high mobility of mobile devices in MANETs, a frequent path failure occurs when a node changes its position in the network. Due to path failure, packet loss occurs in the network. Packet loss is responsible for information lost and retransmission in the network. To minimize packet loss in the network, there should be an effective route selection technique to select next hop for data forwarding. Dynamic nature of topology is a major and fundamental challenge for designing routing protocols for MANETs. A better approach for next hop selection can enhance overall throughput of the network. Because of the mobility of nodes, finding a suitable path from the source to the destination is a primary goal, while designing a routing algorithm for MANETs. In this paper, we are presenting a literature review of various route section techniques for MANETs. For a next hop selection in MANETs, there are various techniques which have been proposed till now. By minimizing hop count, we can reduce battery power consumption, because of minimum processing overhead for route selection.
