Abstract

Abstract

To meet the ever-increasing user’s demand for uninterrupted service, coverage, capacity, current wireless technologies is migrating towards Next Generation Wireless Networks (NGWNs), which will be able to provide seamless communication with Always Best Connected (ABC), anytime anywhere features. Integrated Worldwide Interoperability for Microwave Access (WiMAX) and Wireless Local Area Network (WLAN) networks seems to be a promising approach as it is able to provide extended coverage area with high speed data rate, high throughput, easy deployment, low jitter etc. There are several issues for the integrated WiMAX and WLAN networks such as Quality of Service (QoS), handoff, and routing etc. In this paper, authors have provided a survey on the research issues in integrated WiMAX and WLAN networks.

Keywords: WiMAX, WLAN, QoS, handoff, routing, scalability, resource allocation, multihop, security
