COLOUR IMAGE ENCRYPTION AND COMPRESSION USING HYPER-CHAOTIC SYSTEM AND DCT DICTIONARY

Varsha Sreedharan, Annie George

Abstract

Image encryption and compression has received a lot of attention nowadays since large amount of information is transmitted through public networks. Encrypting the image after compression will sacrifice the flexibility and increases the complexity of the process. So the better method is the joint operation of encryption and compression in single step. The hyper-chaos based colour image image encryption and compression which is based on the scrambling and diffusion is presented here. It uses the discrete cosine transform and the DCT dictionary to represents the image pixels sparsely and uses the diffusion algorithm with the help of hyper-chaotic system for the simultaneous image encryption and compression. The test results show that the proposed compression and encryption algorithm has high security and good performance in compression. The compression and encryption is implemented in MATLAB.
