Wavelet Based Speckle Noise Reduction in Synthetic Aperture Radar Images

Synthetic aperture radar (SAR) is an active imaging system that can achieve high resolutions both in range and azimuth. Speckle noise is one of the most critical disturbances that alter the quality of SAR coherent images. Before using SAR images in automatic target detection and recognition, the first step is to reduce the effect of speckle noise. In this paper, filtering techniques compares with proposed method have been used on the input image and statistical parameters are calculated for the output images obtained for performance measurement and these are implemented in MATLAB. First, we decomposed logarithmically transformed SAR images are accurately modeled by Laplace-Gaussian distributions, a family of heavy-tailed densities.
