Long ago (near about 3,00,000 years before) when human being began to live in group, their leader was women. There were so many groups within the society; all the groups were known as their mother’s name. From that time women were powerful within the society. With the passage of time, which is in the middle of the civilization, man captured their power and became flourished in the society as a powerful man. In this way women lost their power in the society. From ancient history we came to know that women took place chief role in battle field also. Government system emerged in the society gradually. No government can avoid his responsibility towards prosperity of women. In 2001 government introduced empowerment of the women in the Indian Constitution. The principle of gender equality is enshrined in the Indian Constitution in its Preamble, Fundamental Rights, Fundamental Duties and Directive Principles. The Constitution not only grants equality to women, but also empowers the State to adopt measures of positive discrimination in favour of women. In 2005, Government introduced MGNREGA (Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Guarantee Act) which will be conducted by the Gram Panchayat by it’s Social Audit for the upliftment of the poor villagers. In its process government has given power to unemployed women for their better livelihood.
