Design, Analysis and Optimization of Articulated Robot: A Review

This review paper narrates the design, analysis and optimization of different articulated robot arms (ARAs). Design of robot arm is very tedious and repetitive task. In design phase, robotic arm need provision of mechanical and electrical system to achieve specific performance or meet the requirement. During design, a robot arm structure is improved for system performance and efficiency. In the design steps, selection of material and cross-section for robot arm plays a very important role in structural performance. After setting out this selection, designer develops a CAD model of it and performs finite element analysis (FEA). Required torques to manipulate the robot arm and different mechanical systems are chosen from the commercial suppliers or according to standards. Nowadays optimization is one of the important steps in the design process. It helps to improve performance of system through different factors such as weight reduction, maximize stiffness, etc. without affecting its intended function.
