Abstract
In this paper, authors have provided a survey of recent and emerging wireless network technologies available today. This paper presents different Wireless Local Area Network (WLAN) technologies, several IEEE 802.11 amendments along with IEEE 802.11 logical architecture and topology mode. IEEE 802.11ax, a new standard to provide required performance in dense High Efficiency WLANs (HEWs) deployment scenarios is presented. Finally, overview of different Wireless Personal Area Network (WPAN) technologies along with several IEEE 802.15 amendments is discussed and compare their main features in terms of physical layer, link layer, network layer and other properties link security, range, etc.
Keywords: MAC, QoS, IEEE 802.11, WLANs, IEEE 802.15, WPANs, NFC, UWB, HEW, Bluetooth, Z-Wave
